ImageAre you in the habit of clicking pictures of your friends without bothering about the resulting image? The introduction of portrait photography may just give you an edge the next time you wish to do so. This concept introduces the factors which need to be considered when clicking a picture like the various angles, effects of lights or even the facial expression of the person. You don’t have to be a professional to be able to click good pictures but if you want some quality in them, you are required to be aware of the fundamental techniques followed by professionals.

Studying the face of the person whose picture is to be shot is vital and contributes a lot in the angle the photo will be shot from. It is a common belief that people look better and more presentable from certain angles. The reason could be any, a mark on the face caused by acne or the structure of the face from a certain angle. For example, one eye may be smaller than another and taking a front shot might present a scary image, but if shot from the proper angle and using light shadowing techniques the same face can be presented in a way that it surpasses those looks and instead provides a different looking face of the same person.

Portrait photography is directly related to the personality of the subject, and the different face structures give it an interesting character to be explored. In case you tend to take photography as a profession, you might even want to study the subject before the photo session. If you know them personally as they may be someone from the family, you would be aware of their personalities and the required angles for perfect shots.

Another important factor to be considered in this field is the effect of light on the subject. Varying on their experiences photographers may choose either the artificial lights or the natural lights. The lighting factor is vital and you may have to use whatever form of light is available at that time. You may be required to adjust the aperture settings which would be compensating for the lack of definition of the camera, in case you are using natural lighting. In simple terms the contrast with the shadows and the lights will have to be created by you. At times, improper direction of artificial lights may make the image look harsher in case the photo is not shot in a studio. In such situations, the settings will have to be adjusted manually for perfect images.

When we talk about lights, another thing to be considered is the background of the image to be shot. As a professional, you should choose a background which does not obstruct with the features or clothes of the subject. There should me an appropriate contrast between the subject and the background. Using a background which gives color and better effect to the subject should always be remembered. A mountain background or a tree can be great but it should be ensured that they do not draw away the attention from the subject and make the individual look out of the picture rather than being a part of it.

The quality of the photograph is also dependent on the camera type or the film used for it. If the factors are properly considered and appropriate combination of the angle, light and features of the subject are kept in mind, you can present an attractive image of the subject with a professional out look. No doubts, taking a picture is not hard, but some tricks may just make it look better and great.
